![]() ![]() Whether for sentimental reasons or utilitarian reasons the Nylon 66 is a great. In recent history, long after the Nylon 66 was gone, both Ruger and Marlin have very slightly improved the trigger pulls (still pretty heavy). But these rifles are extremely reliable, don't need to be taken apart, weigh 4lbs 2oz loaded, and back when Remington was producing them had a trigger that was typically 1-2lbs lighter than the Ruger 10/22 and the Marlin 60. The Nylon 66 does have some shortcomings already mentioned: it is not well suited for a scope, not as handy as detachable box magazine guns like the Ruger 10/22, not quite as accurate as a Marlin's 60, not a gun you want to take apart, and now more expensive because of collector interest. It was introduced in 1959 - way ahead of the Polymer frame Glock 17 pistol and the little polymer HK pistol that was around before Glock but never caught on. The two letters are right in front of the rear sight along the barrel on the left side of the barrel. One more thing about the Nylon 66! It is not the first rifle with a synthetic stock but it is the first mass produced (Remington produced over 1 million) that integrated polymer parts along with steel throughout its design. Light or partial stampings can be confusing. Later production guns had A-prefix serial numbers. Mid-production guns had no-prefix serial numbers. The month codes are B=Jan L=Feb A=Mar C=Apr K=May P=Jun O=Jul W=Aug D=Sep E=Oct R=Nov X=DecĪs you will note, this forms the acronym BLACKPOWDERX, which is easy to remember. Three months later in 1968 the serial number started with 419012 and went to serial number 473710. ![]() There will be two letters, the first being the month, and the second being the year. Where is the serial number on Remington 66 Serial numbering of the Nylon 66 and its spin-offs started at serial number 400000 and went to 419011, but at that time the number was stamped on the underside of the barrel just aft of the front sight. Illustration from old Remington catalog courtesy of Remington Arms. ![]() Thought I'd post these and see who had what, mine is "PG", no serial numbers = June 1960Īctually, the key to manufacture date on your Remington Nylon 66 is not the serial number, but a stamping on the barrel.
